Lip creams available by the bed can make a patient more comfortable
Two very sensible thoughts...thanks
Jane Boyce from Howich writes....
Dry lips can be very uncomfortable, especially if the lips crack. Often when we are in hospital or unwell, we can get dry, cracked lips, at almost any age and gender. Ask the nurse to apply a little at intervals during the day.
Ask first, but the staff may be extremely grateful if you, as a visitor, can do it whilst you are visiting. Why not bring some with you as a gift to the patient, so they can use it themselve?
Jane Boyce also urges staff to carefully check a patient's ability before leaving them to cope with a bowl of water on their own . Many patients struggle to wash themselves in bed, and especially if the curtains have not been properly closed
