Pillows are to support the patient though, sometimes. the reverse is true!
The positioning of pillows is crucial to a patient's wellbeing in bed. If you feel uncomfortable or, as a visitor, you feel your relative or friend is not positioned properly, ask the nursing staff to adjust them. Don't move pillows without permission. The patient may be lying or sitting in a certain position for a reason. There is also a chance that, by moving a patient you may hurt them or yourself.
Pillows can slip or it may be that the patient wishes to change their position. Either way, it is a simple nursing skill that takes a matter of seconds to perform and can make the world of difference.
