Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust volunteers make the world of difference in A&E

Volunteers in the A&E department are on hand to support patients and their families in many ways as they wait to see a doctor. Their services include offering tea to patients (where appropriate) and relatives. They will also make phone calls on behalf of patients – perhaps to ask a neighbour to collect a child from school or let the dog out. They will also alert staff if they think a patient’s care is being affected by the wait. The volunteers pay particular attention to people with major injuries and those who are waiting on their own. The staff direct volunteer activity at all times.
